1.2 keep it secret

ZA / 2011
The Paarl Monument, described as a Language monument is situated in the Republic of South Africa which counts eleven official spoken languages. Apartheid was officially ended in 1990. Afrikaans originates from 17th century settlers and their Dutch dialects, and is spoken by a 13.5 percent of the total population in South Africa (2011). It is a fact of exclusion of various other languages spoken in the country, like Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, Tsonga, Ndebele and many more languages are not represented. The Paarl Monument does exist as attraction without any references to nationalism, to Apartheid or historical, significant facts on site. The meaning of inclusion and exclusion in the symbolism of the monument leads to a paradox and distorted image of the nature of national heritage and the symbolic manifestations of nationhood. Keep it secret refers to hidden facts on site, censorship within the educational system of diverse culture groups and various language codes in processing history for the total of the South African population.
