Katharina Balgavy studied international development studies, media management, fine arts and critical studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the University of Applied Arts Vienna. She works as a communications and associate director in contemporary art and arts-based research in Berlin. Her research and program activities are characterised by their investigations of globalisation, temporality, environmentalism and notions of nationalism.
Katharina Balgavy is a communications director, writer and researcher in cultural studies, working in commissioned projects for selected media and institutions. Her works include clients like the Guggenheim Museum, TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Palais Liechtenstein, Vogue, vice media, and Alexander McQueen among others. As a multi-instrumentalist, Katharina Balgavy has developed digital and business strategies for various clients. Her program activities in the visual arts sector started in various venues in Austria in 2001. Katharina founded the plastic index, an association and curatorial platform for culture + sustainability in corporate projects and art agendas, while she develops new media projects worldwide.
